Initial Signs of Pregnancy
Some women experience signs of pregnancy immediately; their bodies feel drastically different. Others experience no signs of pregnancy, and weeks might pass before they take a test.
Both situations are typical, and in some cases, what seems like pregnancy symptoms are actually indicative of stress or other health conditions. Here are some symptoms to look for:
- Missed period
- Tender, swollen breasts
- Fatigue
- Frequent urination
- Nausea with or without vomiting
- Moodiness
- Cramping
- Constipation
- Nasal congestion
- Food aversions
- Bloating
If you think you may be pregnant, remember that taking a test is the only way to know.
When To Test for Pregnancy
The best time to test for pregnancy is a few days after your missed period. This allows your body time for hCG levels to develop. This hormone is only produced during pregnancy. Both blood and urine-based tests detect hCG.
Taking an at-home test first thing in the morning is ideal because this is when your urine is most concentrated. Confirming an at-home test result with pregnancy testing at a doctor’s office or pregnancy center is best. Sometimes, women receive a false result if they take a test too early or incorrectly.
